Kenneth “Britt” Cotter is an attorney and a candidate to serve as a District Judge in the 20th District of Montana’s judicial branch, responsible for Lake and Sanders Counties.  

Britt grew up in Colorado. He attended Gonzaga Law School and has practiced law in Montana since 2005. He started his career as a county prosecutor and then became a public defender. Britt was awarded the Excellence Award for professional excellence and dedication to the Public Defender’s Office in 2008. He has completed the Northern Rockies Capital Litigation Training Program and training at the Department of Justice National Advocacy Center in South Carolina.

Britt has had a private practice on Main Street in Polson since 2009. He has represented clients in criminal and civil cases in over 90 different courts in Montana. He is licensed to practice in all Montana state courts, the United States District Court for the District of Montana, and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Court of the Flathead Indian Reservation.

Britt is married to his wife Jayme, who is from Shelby. They have two athletic boys who play just about every sport. Britt is the president of the Mission Valley Baseball League and is actively involved in coaching youth sports. When he’s not coaching, he enjoys traveling, hunting, floating, and chess.
